Ten Primary Schools from St Austell and the surrounding area danced their way through their school day recently with an enthusiastic workshop at the Keay theatre and dance studios.

Organised by Mid Cornwall Sports Network, the dance extravaganza saw more than 60 primary children from Year 3 and 4 take part.  They took part in workshops and devised performances with dancer students from Cornwall College St Austell.

Parents were invited to watch the energetic contemporary and street jazz routines under the bright lights of the Keay theatre, with many of the children experiencing their first performance on a stage.

Chloe Truscott, a second year Cornwall College Altitude Dancer, explained what an “amazing” and “challenging” experience it was for her.

“I taught a style of dance that I don’t normally teach and the children were amazing at picking up the material and there was so much fun and laughter - I loved every minute of it,” she added.

Casey Mounce from the Mid-Cornwall Sports Network dance was pleased that the festival was such a huge success.

“All the children really enjoyed themselves; it was a fantastic opportunity to perform on stage to an audience at such a great facility and thank you to the dance students for being such excellent leaders.”

All the children left the day with a bracelet and a certificate for taking part.

Performing Arts Team Lead, Jess Leonard said “we have absolutely loved hosting the mid-Cornwall Sports Network Primary dance day”.

“My dancers delivered outstanding workshops which were creative and challenging and it was amazing to watch the Primary School children respond with such excitement,” she continued.

“Hopefully these young dancers will be my future learners one day, training in state of the art facilities and inspiring future generations to dance.”
