The Big Bang Fair South West returned to the University of Exeter for an amazing celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths on Wednesday 21 June.

The Fair, which was organised by CSW Group, saw around 1600 students from across the South West explore the exciting career options and opportunities available within the STEM sector at the University’s Streatham Campus.

Over 60 local, national and international organisations including National Citizens Service, Babcock, Spirent, and BD shared their expertise with the students, offering valuable careers advice and inspiration.

As with previous years the Event was largely interactive and around 150 students shared their own creative, innovative projects, which were assessed by 54 judges.

Many of the projects were judged as having genuine commercial potential and these students and their schools will soon be supported to explore the possibility of taking such brilliant ideas to market.

Prizes were awarded on the day, not only for outstanding project content, but also for the students’ presentation skills in order to stress the importance of this highly sought after skill in the workplace.

The festival also included a ‘Mega Class’ where more than 1500 young people got to hear about science from ‘out of this world’ from the National Space Academy.

CSW Enterprise, part of CSW Group, who organised the event, were delighted with this year’s turnout. Paul Hobson, CSW’s Chief Executive Officer said, “It’s great to witness the enthusiasm an event like this creates. The level of interest these young people have for science, technology, engineering and maths, together with the range of employers who attended, confirms the optimism we should have in our STEM based industries and the career opportunities they offer.”
