Bringing Clarity to the Future of Apprenticeships

Bringing Clarity to the Future of Apprenticeships" is one of three events being held in partnership with a number of organisations, including the Devon & Cornwall Training Provider Network, the Skills Funding Agency, Local Authorities and training providers. These events are aimed at both levy and non-levy paying organisations, to provide information and awareness raising sessions in light of the forthcoming Apprenticeship Reforms, which come into existence from April 2017.

The events, the first of which is being held in Exeter on 11 November will provide businesses with clear, impartial advice and messaging around the Apprenticeship Reforms, and how businesses can prepare themselves, and access support, for when the changes come into being. Please find more information here on the Exeter event.

DCBC have 30 complimentary tickets for this event to give away to our members. Tickets will be allocated on a first come first serve basis. To book, please click here and enter code: DCBC at the checkout.

The Government is committed to raising Apprenticeship numbers to three million by 2020. It wants to encourage businesses of all sizes to use Apprenticeships as a more natural way of developing the skills of existing staff members and not just new additions to their workforce. An increase in Higher Apprenticeships will also widen the opportunities of developing staff up to levels 6 and 7. As part of this plan, an Apprenticeship Levy is being introduced from 5 April 2017 for all businesses with an annual wage bill in excess of £3million. Employers will pay 0.5% of their wage bill through PAYE to support future Apprenticeship growth. However, it will be possible for businesses to recover their levy payment if they employ apprentices in the future. Read More...

Petroc College
With the Apprenticeship Levy coming into effect from 1st May 2017, the clock is ticking for employers to prepare and ensure they optimise the positive impact on their business. Conversations with employers over the last year have highlighted a need for more information around the Apprenticeship Levy and what the Apprenticeships’ reforms mean for businesses. To that end, Petroc thought it helpful to produce a guide based on the facts as they are known.

Here are some of the key facts:
  • The aim of the Levy is to increase UK employers’ commitment to Apprenticeships. Therefore, the Levy paid will be made available to fund the delivery of Apprenticeship training. This can be for existing or new staff.
  • The Levy will be deducted monthly by HMRC alongside tax and National Insurance contributions.
  • Employers will be free to seek and negotiate Apprenticeship training delivery with the training provider of their choice.

To see the full guide, please click here.

Should you have any questions or would like to discuss further how best to maximise the benefits of your Levy pot, please contact Petroc's Apprenticeship Team on;
