Just in time for ‘Thank a Vet Nurse Day’ on the 2nd June, Bicton College’s Veterinary Nurse department is celebrating 100% success rate in their practical exams across the academic year.

Based at Bicton College in East Budleigh, all students undertaking a Level 3 City and Guild Diploma in Veterinary Nursing have been tested on skills such as anatomy and physiology, animal husbandry, supporting the supply of veterinary medicines, diagnostic imaging, operating theatre practice, supporting veterinary anaesthesia and laboratory diagnostics.

Principal Phil le Grice said “all veterinary nurses across the world deserve to be thanked for the fantastic work they do”.

“Staff and students at Bicton College want to say a huge thank you and congratulations to all of our Vet Nurse students as we are very proud of them all,” he added.

Beth Lewis, a first year student from Kingsbridge, said she had “really enjoyed her first year on the veterinary nursing course and made a great start”.

“There is a good balance of theory and practical lessons and all of the staff are very friendly and helpful,” she continued.

“I am so proud of my classmates who have all done brilliantly, the course is fast paced but we are learning in a very positive environment. I am well on my way to success and achieving my dream of becoming a veterinary nurse.”

Holly Smith, one of the Veterinary Nursing Program Managers at Bicton College, explained the strategy behind the success.

“Following a successful merger of the Bicton College and Duchy College Rosewarne Veterinary Nursing Centres, our veterinary nursing training has gone from strength to strength,” she said.

“We are delighted with our students’ exam results and the support that we receive from our Training Practices to develop the students’ clinical skills. The excellent exam results follow on from a glowing external quality assurance report and we are very excited about the future with our dynamic veterinary nursing team.”
