Job Title: Business Development Manager (membership)

Start Date: Summer 2017

The Role:

We are seeking a polite, professional and well organised individual that enjoys selling and developing new business opportunities and is happy managing relationships with an existing portfolio of clients (our members).

You must be a good communicator and an active listener with strong critical reasoning skills; this will enable you to identify challenges and opportunities for our members. You will enjoy having a high degree of autonomy and are likely to be someone that enjoys meeting people and making things happen.

Devon & Cornwall Business Council (DCBC) prides itself on the personal and trusted relationships they have established with all their members and you will be expected to work to extremely high standards to deliver against client and organisational requirements. Your sales targets will be challenging but are shared with other members of the team.

DCBC is a small business which requires a considerable degree of flexibility – every day may throw up a different challenge. In return, you will be working for a small and dedicated team within a unique organisation that is the most powerful private sector voice for Devon & Cornwall.

This role has plenty of variety:

  • Managing a portfolio of clients (members), developing and maintaining strong, long-
  • lasting relationships
  • Using existing and new contacts to generate new business opportunities for DCBC
  • Delivering presentations and representing the company at events
  • Attending meetings with clients
  • Delivering agreed projects on behalf of our members
  • Providing regular updates and communications both internally and externally

Skills (essential):

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong presentation and negotiation skills
  • Confidence and with an ability to present solutions
  • Tight organisational and time management skills
  • Great business sense and the ability to work within budgets
  • Good level of digital literacy

Terms and Conditions:

  • This role carries an annual salary of £24,000. This is a full-time role but we are willing to be flexible and consider PT or job share opportunities for the right candidate(s).
  • Regular reviews with a 6-month probationary period. One month notice.
  • Annual leave entitlement is 25 days + 8 bank holidays, which will be reduced pro-rata 
  • for part-time employment.
  • The role will be remote / home based within Devon or Cornwall.
  • DCBC operates a flexible working policy, but we would expect much of your work to be carried out Monday to Friday, between 0800 and 1800. Occasionally, there may be a requirement to work outside of these days/times and this would be negotiated in advance.
